Background Human MEC/CCL28 is a CC chemokine primarily expressed in thymic dendritic cells and mucosal epithelial cells, and plays a key role in the segregation and the compartmentalization of the mucosal immune system through recruitment of immune cells to specific locations. CCL28 also called mucosae-associated epithelial chemokine (MEC), is expressed in most human, mouse and pig mucosal tissues including the salivary gland, mammary gland (MG), small and large intestines and trachea, where it appears to be predominantly produced by epithelial cells[1]. |
